FAYETTEVILLE — A project to repair an Interstate 95 bridge in Robeson County starts Monday with traffic restrictions expected to begin the following night.
The N.C. Department of Transportation will repair flood damage to a bridge over Little Marsh Swamp on southbound Interstate 95 near mile marker 35. The work is expected to be finished by Aug. 31.
Beginning Tuesday night, the contractor plans to close both southbound lanes and detour traffic off the interstate at Exit 41 and onto N.C. 59 in Cumberland County. Signs and message boards will direct traffic to use U.S. 301, which parallels the interstate, before getting back onto I-95 at Exit 33 in Robeson County.
For part of the project, the contractor will close only one of the two southbound lanes overnight and a detour will not be in place.
The state DOT will limit the single-lane closure to between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. Sundays through Thursdays. When both lanes must be closed, the detour will be restricted to between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. Sundays through Thursdays. There will be no detours or single-lane closures on Interstate 95 during the weekends, when traffic is heavier.
