PEMBROKE — Pembroke is making upgrades to its trash service.
With a new contract starting in December, if passed on second reading by town board, Pembroke’s waste contractor will offer new recycling and collection services to residents.
Pembroke Waste Services will offer curbside residential recycling, leaf and limb pickup, and brown and white goods collection. The local company will also offer recycling and waste pickup for commercial customers.
Residential recycling will be picked up each Wednesday with items being placed in 14-gallon containers.
Recyclable items will consist black plastic, soft drink bottles, water bottles, plastic milk jugs, aluminum cans, tin or metal cans, unwaxed cardboard like cereal or cracker boxes, newspaper, magazines, catalogues, telephone books, office paper, shredded paper, junk mail, envelopes and aluminum foil.
Residential leaf and limb pickup will happen twice monthly, on the first and third Tuesdays, between Oct. 1 and Jan. 31. Between Feb. 1 and Sept. 30, collections will take place only on the third Tuesday of the month. Yard waste needs to be placed at the curb for pick up. Limbs can be no longer than 4 inches in diameter and 6 feet in length. Yard debris piles cannot be more than 4 feet high, 8 feet long and 6 feet wide.
Residential brown and white goods pickup will take place on the second Friday of each month. Brown goods consist of mattresses, box springs, chairs, televisions, bicycles, and sofas, etc. White goods consist of refrigerators, freezers, and any other appliances.
Commercial waste collections will be picked up on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday of each week. Recycling for businesses will be on Tuesday and Wednesday of each week.
The town has no plans to raise rates.
