Free legal advice available for storm victims

LUMBERTON — Victims of Hurricane Matthew can get free legal assistance with their FEMA applications and appeals on Saturday.

Legal Aid of North Carolina, the Lumber River Council of Governments and the North Carolina Bar Association Young Lawyers Division will be available for help at two locations in Lumberton from 12:30 to 4 p.m. — West Lumberton Baptist Church at 2320 W. Fifth St. and Sandy Grove Baptist Church at 1601 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

Anyone whose application for assistance from FEMA was denied should bring any documents they received from FEMA. Health insurance navigators will be available to answer questions about the Affordable Care Act.

No appointment is needed; help will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

Anyone who cannot attend can call North Carolina’s Hurricane Matthew free legal aid hotline at 1-800-662-7407, weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
