Gunman robs city business; police get tag number


LUMBERTON — Lawmen are looking for the gunman who robbed a city business this morning, and they were able to get the 30-day tag number from the vehicle he fled in, according to a statement from Lumberton police Capt. Terry Parker.

According to a statement Parker released, the gunman entered MIS, which is located at 1312 E. Fifth St., at about 10:30 a.m. and robbed the only employee who was in the store. He then left in a 2011 gray Chrysler 300 with a 30-day tag of 22833283, according to the statement.

The gunman concealed his face, but was described as being black, about 5 feet, 5 inches to 5 feet, 8 inches tall, with a slim build, according to the statement. He carried a handgun. No one was injured and the amount of money stolen was undisclosed.

The State Bureau of Investigation has joined the investigation.

Police are asking for anyone with information on the gunman or the suspect vehicle to call Detective Evan Whitley at the Lumberton Police Department 910-671-3845. Callers can remain anonymous.
