The Lumbee tribal banner was carried in the Inaugural Parade by Patrick Greene and Ronald Andrade. The two Lumbee youth participate in the Cultural Enrichment and Youth Department, through cultural classes and the Boys & Girls Club program, offered by the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina.

“I was very proud when the staff told me two youth would be representing tribal members, in regalia at this event,” said Tribal Chairman Jimmy Goins. “Tribal members would have really been proud when they saw how much it meant to them to dance by Governor Perdue, with that banner. Instilling pride in our youth, that’s what it’s about.”

The Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina offers cultural classes and currently has three sites within the tribal territory that hold evening sessions. Cultural classes are held on Monday nights at the Soaring Eagle Community Center located at the corner of Watts and Norment roads, in Lumberton. On Tuesday nights the cultural classes are held at Cherokee Chapel Methodist Church, across from Oxendine Elementary School. Thursdays, the cultural class is held at Lumbee Regional Development (LRDA) Office on Prospect Road, in Pembroke.

All classes are held from 6 pm until 8 pm. The public is invited and encouraged to attend. Classes are open to all ages. For more information contact John Oxendine at 910.522.2217.
