There are many unfortunate events happening in our town that make me sad. I have lived here my whole life and I am embarrassed to call Red Springs home.

One of the saddest things is that senior citizens or people with disabilities are unable to attend Town board meetings because they are unable to climb the many stairs that lead to the meeting room on the second floor of the Town Hall.

I am bound to a wheelchair due to my Rheumatoid Arthritis. I would like to attend a meeting and let my voice be heard. But I am unable to do so since the second floor of the Town Hall is not handicap accessible. It is my understanding that three years ago, an elevator was to be installed yet there is still no elevator. If all government buildings are required to be in compliance, why is the second floor of the Town Hall not accessible to citizens with special needs? I deserved the chance to attend a meeting just like the average citizen.

Folks, pray for our town and our elected officials that they will make the right decisions so people will be proud to once again call Red Springs home!

Thank you…

Vickie Ferguson, a concerned citizen

Red Springs
