North Carolina high school students between the ages of 14-19 are invited to participate in an audition at Meymandi Concert Hall at downtown Raleigh’s Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts on September 26, 2009. Audition requirements, application and further details can be found at www.ncsymphony.org/education.
“The repertoire will be selected to fit the assembled group of players,” says Symphony Director of Education Kathryn Wyatt. “We hope to form a cohesive group of great young musicians who will challenge themselves and each other to perform as growing professionals.”
The new group’s schedule includes concerts on Sunday, December 6 and Sunday, April 11, as well as several rehearsal sessions for each performance. For students who live out of the area, accommodations in private homes can be provided. A participation fee of $75 is required; scholarships may be available.
High Partridge looks forward to the collaboration with the new orchestra: “This new program of the North Carolina Symphony will compliment the experience offered to our young musicians through a smaller chamber orchestra experience. I am happy to be involved in this project and anticipate that it will be a success.”
“Playing in a chamber orchestra is challenging and fun,” Wyatt adds. “There is a spark from playing with a small ensemble that transmits to electricity on stage. Grant is an inspiring leader who will push young musicians to embrace their potential. I think these two weeks will be a significant accomplishment and growth opportunity for the young people involved.”
