The scholarship, in the amount of $1,500 is for the Municipal and County Administration course offered through the School of Government.
“We wish Jennifer the best of success with her continued pursuit of education and service to local government,” said Janie Bright, Education Service Manager of the Local Government Federal Credit Union.
The Municipal and County Administration course is offered through the UNC School of Government. The course is designed for city and county managers, department heads, and other city or county officials whose responsibilities require an understanding of functions beyond individual areas of specialization.
During the application period following the August 1, 2009 deadline, twenty-four scholarships were awarded across the state of North Carolina.
“I am really excited about receiving the scholarship as well as acceptance into the School of Government,” said Dowless. “Budgets across the state are tight this year and our town is no exception. This scholarship will cover the complete cost of the course. The knowledge that I obtain through this course will be an asset to the town. I have always enjoyed working with the public and feel that public service is where I belong. There is no greater feeling than to be able to see positive changes being made and know that you are apart of those positive changes.”
