Red Springs Police Chief Troy McDuffie believes the Sunday morning shooting was in retaliation for another shooting that occurred in August.
Terrell LaShawn Hunt, 23, of 114 Jackson St., was also charged with possession of a firearm by a felon. He was being held at Robeson County jail under a $50,000 bond.
According to McDuffie, at about 12:15 a.m. Sunday, Hunt stopped his vehicle near Eric Terry’s Eighth Avenue home, exited the vehicle and used a shotgun to begin shooting at Terry, who escaped uninjured behind his house. Hunt then blasted the front door of the home, according to police.
Terry’s 83-year-old grandmother was in the home but was not hurt.
Red Springs police believe the incident was in retaliation for a shooting on Aug. 23 on Baldwin Street during which Phillip Campbell, 19, of Fourth Avenue, was struck in the neck. He was treated and released from Duke Medical Center, according to McDuffie.
McDuffie said police are not sure if Terry was involved in the August shooting, which is still being investigated.
