I only want to comment on an ad that was in the Red Springs Citizen on Wednesday, October 21, 2009. The ad was in support of a candidate in the upcoming November 03, 2009 election.
It appears the ad may have had positive intentions, but along the way it became misconstrued, and not factual. I investigated these insinuations. The ad was puzzling, because it is all surfacing now, and the chief has been employed for years. I wondered why it was so publicly stated before the November 03, 2009 election. Maybe, because it was a personal issue and could not be shared. Who knows?
I personally requested the address of the current police chief, and measure the distances in question, and to the calculations, it just did not add up (58 miles). I invite any one with information other than what I’ve found to please share it with me.
I do not hold the police chief or the police officers at fault, in no way. None of these folks hired themselves. The municipality of Red Springs, like other towns have a governing body, in which they oversee the Red Springs Police Department and other town employees. If any of these employees are not performing the duties in which they were hired, they should not be publicly ridiculed, unless the situation calls for open shame. It is not the responsibility of a political committee, or the citizens to oversee the employees.
Was this an issue when the chief was hired? Has he moved since his employment? Was he not a Hoke/Cumberland county resident at that time? Why was this not on the table at that time? Should he not have been told during the interviewing process? Remember, the governing body of Red Springs hire and fire the employees of City of Red Springs. Your governing body consists of elected officials, in which you are in the process of choosing. In just a few days the powerful will become powerless!
Stop stressing over situations that you have no control. Stop the badgering. The chief and his officers are trying to work and do the best they can in such a town as this.
Remember, cast your vote! Remember a few of the candidates that are now in the running were in office when our current chief was hired. Direct your questions and concerns to your City Council. Neither the chief nor his officers hired themselves.
I repeat from an earlier article from which I wrote, if they are not good stewards, God will intervene. Once done is done.
Be Blessed,
Renet McQueen
