Mattie Bell (TB) Chavis, 83, of Rennert, departed this life on Nov. 7, 2009, at the home of her daughter, Catherine Deese. The funeral was on Friday at Zion Hill Baptist Church, the Revs. Joe McMillian and Rocky Williamson officiated. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Troy and Maggie Locklear of Rennert; her husband of over 50 years, Brooks Chavis and her three adult children, Troy Chavis, Rosa Chavis and Evelyn Chavis; and three infant children, Billy Chavis, Jessie Bell Chavis and baby boy Chavis.

She is survived by eight children, Donnie L. Locklear and wife Diannah, both of Lumberton, Robert Chavis and wife Arline, both of Pembroke, Linda Faye Locklear of Maxton, Jerry Chavis and wife Gomer, both of Jacksonville, Darnell Chavis and wife Janice, both of Shannon, Catherine Deese and husband Allen, both of Red Springs, Earl Chavis and Don Chavis, both of the home; two grandsons whom she was raising, Robert Earl Chavis and Donovon Locklear; a daughter-in-law, Ethel Chavis; a brother, Redell Locklear and wife Lois, both of Lumberton; a sister, Magaline Revels and husband Prentis, both of Fayetteville; 28 grandchildren; and 41 great-grandchildren.
