A man was killed Wednesday night when the dirt bike he was riding was sideswiped on St. Anna Road, about 2 1/2miles north of Pembroke.

The wreck happened about 11:05 p.m., according to a report filed by Highway Patrol Trooper J.K. Locklear.

Justin Allen Oxendine, 25, of 2840 McQueen Road in Red Springs, was traveling south on the dirt bike when a northbound 1996 GMC car driven by Jeremiah Junior Locklear, 23, of the 1100 block of W.D. Locklear Road in Lumberton, crossed the center line, the report said.

The car sideswiped the bike, which did not have a working headlight, forcing it off the right side of the road and into a mailbox, the report said.

It was not known whether Oxendine was wearing a helmet, a Highway Patrol spokeswoman said.
