The funeral was on Wednesday at West Saddletree Baptist Church, the Rev. Ricky Burnette and Brother Douglas Chavis officiated. Burial will follow at a later date.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Joe Chavis; and paternal grandfather, Charlie Smith.
Chavis leaves to cherish his memories his mother, Moneas Locklear of the home; his father, Roger Ray Smith; his stepfather, Larry Stacey Locklear; three brothers, Sandy Chavis, Joshua Smith, and Coty Smith; two sisters, Lora Jones and Kay Dorsey; four nieces, Lasonya Jones, Shareka Jones, Kelsey Chavis, and Jana Dorsey; three nephews, Sandy Chavis, Dresdyn Chavis, and Jordan Dorsey; and a host of relatives and friends.
