In June of 1997 the Red Springs Town commissioners reactivated the Red Springs Historical Commission for the purpose of establishing a local museum. The museum opened shortly afterward and has had many local and several out of state visitors. Also, several elementary classes, local clubs and other groups have toured the museum.

The month of May has been designated fund raising month for the Red Springs Historical Museum. The museum is a 501c3 organization run by volunteers and one part-time paid staff member. Donations are tax deductible. While the RSHM has received grants and allocated funds from the town of Red Springs it also depends on private donations from businesses and individuals.

The RSHM exhibits provides a glimpse into the culture of Red Springs and the surrounding area through the years. Exhibits include Early Family Life, Education, Military, Farming, Baseball, Medical/Dental, Businesses, and the Colonel (Retired) William S. McArthur Space Room. We are currently working on fundraising to support an expansion, as we have many items that are not on display due to space limitations.

The museum is free to the public. Hours of operation are Tuesday and Sunday 2pm to 5pm. If you haven’t visited the museum, please come and see us. Arrangements can be made for groups wishing to tour the museum. The museum is also in need of volunteer docents. If interested in volunteering or arranging a group tour leave a message at 843-7300. Send donations to Red Springs Historical Museum Foundation, 217 South Main Street, Red Springs, NC 28377.
