Marshall McDonald of Red Springs has just signed with the baseball team at Montreat College for the 2010 season. A first baseman coming off a strong season with Catawba Valley Community College, he posted some big numbers in his time there: a .392 batting average with 12 doubles, 10 homeruns and an on-base percentage of .482 in his last season. McDonald was also selected as the National Junior College Athletic Association #10 All-Region first baseman last season.

Mike Bender, Head Coach for the Cavaliers Baseball program is excited to have McDonald in the line-up for the upcoming season. He says, “Marshall is the type of player that you can build your program around. He is going to make immediate contributions to this team on and off the field. Montreat college baseball is very fortunate to have signed a player with his talent and his moral character.”

Montreat College is a Christ-centered liberal arts institution with its main campus for four-year traditional students in Montreat. The accelerated School of Professional and Adult Studies program has campuses in Asheville, Charlotte, and Black Mountain.

Marshall is the son of Bryan McDonald of Lumberton, and the grandson of Marshall and Gussie McDonald of Red Springs.
