The funeral was on Monday at New Bethel Methodist Church, the Revs. Elton Hunt, Harold Woods, and Willie Hunt officiated. Burial with military honors followed in the church cemetery.
Oxendine was born Nov. 27, 1922, in Marlboro County, S.C. She was the daughter of the late Parker and Marybell O. Jacobs. She was a proud veteran serving our country during World War II. She was also a member of New Bethel Methodist Church where she served several years as Sunday school teacher, secretary and choir member. Oxendine was a member of the Pembroke Ladies’ chorus and she devoted her life to God in serving others.
In addition to her parents, Oxendine was preceded in death by her husbands Welton Oxendine Sr. and C.W. Oxendine; five brothers, Cassidy, Gurthrie, Walter, Dempsey, and Lindbergh Jacobs; and two sisters, Lucreatie Clark and Dorothy Bell Mauere.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory; a son, Welton Oxendine Jr. of Lumberton; daughters, Patrick Clark and husband Jimmy, both of Charlotte and Mazell Hunt and husband Cecil, both of Shannon; a brother, Earnest P. Jacobs of Arizona; two sisters, Hester Lowery and Evelyn Locklear, both of Clio, S.C.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a special family friend, Jim Spencer.
