A Red Springs man shot and killed his son, allegedly after the son attacked him and stole about thirteen dollars, according to a sheriff’s report.

Onery Clark, 52, of N.C. 710, was being questioned this afternoon in the death of 28-year-old Onery Clark Jr., according to the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office, but as of 1 p.m. had not been charged with a crime.

According to the report, the younger Clark had gone to his father’s house at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday and tapped on his father’s bedroom window. When the elder Clark went outside to see what his son wanted, Clark Jr. allegedly hit his father on the head with a chrome pistol, knocked him to the ground, kicked him in the ribs and took $13 out of his front pants pocket before leaving. The elder Clark then walked to the Red Springs Police Department to report the robbery.

Later that evening or early this morning, sheriff’s Deputy G.D. Leggett responded to a 911 from Clark’s house. According to Leggett’s report, when the deputy arrived at the home he saw Clark Sr. coming from around the side of the house. The report said that Clark Sr. was visibly shaken and told Leggette that he had shot his son.

The report said Leggett found Clark Jr. inside the home on the floor. A black revolver was found on a dryer.

A resident of the home, 58-year-old Bonnie Clark Harris, told Leggett she had performed CPR on the younger Clark. She is related to Clark Sr., but the exact relationship was unclear. Emergency personnel treated the injured man also. The report did not say when Clark Jr. died.

Clark Jr., who lived on of N.C. 20 West, St. Pauls, was released from prison on April 10 after serving nearly two years for attempted second-degree kidnapping, according to the state Department of Correction.
